If hunting for woodcock,
grouse, partridge, pheasant or migratory birds is your favorite thing, or if you would like
to try bird hunting in the Maine woods with pointing dogs, you
will not be disappointed with us.The location of South Branch
Lake Camps is such that you can find covers for misty afternoons
and sunny mornings alike. Around here you never really need to
hunt the same cover twice unless of course you wish to. All
the covers are located close enough so that you don’t have to
spend half your hunting day in your truck moving around. If
you like, we will be happy to point the way for you and
your dogs to the spectacular antics of woodcock or the
powerful take-offs of grouse, or you can feel free to go explore
the area on your own. The covers around here hold plenty of both
types of birds. Seboeis is on the Atlantic migratory route. And
in addition to that, the Penobscot River with its alder banks
attracts lots of migratory woodcock to the area. The season
starts around October first, and lasts for about a month for the
woodcock and until the very end of the year for grouse – and as
far as grouse goes, the hunting only gets better as the season
goes on. Last year was fantastic hunting! In fact, as I
write this in January, I have been noticing more grouse in the
woods that in the winters past. This is a sign of a healthy
population that should carry us into another great season in
2011. Start reloading… |
